Pastel painting began when early man stroked pure pigment onto cave walls.  Today pigment is formed into sticks, similar to blackboard chalk and made in many exciting colors.  Properly cared for, pastel paintings will last as long as any for oil or acrylic painting and may be handed down as family heirlooms.
